My kiddos have become pretty adept at fishing one of the local lakes. There is seldom a time that they don't come home with one or many trout. This week was no exception. We were there for about 45 minutes and they caught 6 fish! My little man credits it to his lucky camo hat that he got while vacationing with Grandma and Grandpa but my daughter is convinced it is her skill. In her defense, we weren't catching anything and then she began to throw "chum" (local berries) into the lake. Within a minute they had a bite. Another time she was certain that the fish were located somewhere else and began fishing elsewhere and sure enough, began catching them right away. Whether it's luck or skill, one thing is for sure; they have inherited their Daddy and both Grandpas' love of fishing.

Oh the Places You Will Go
My kiddos are learning the joys of reading right now and are knee deep in phonics and vocabulary. So having a fun outlet for their learning is a great reinforcement for their skills. They just LOVE to read to their new baby cousin and it looks like he was enjoying it too.

My First Tournament
Now don't go getting any crazy ideas. Yes, I was in a karate tournament. Yes, I got first place in kata and sparring. But #1: I am in the beginners' division. It's not like I'm fighting black belts - and #2: I attribute it entirely to my amazing toenail job. It's yellow (to match my belt) with the symbol for courage painted on in black. I'll take any advantage I can get. I figure that my opponents' thought process went something like this:
"This chick doesn't stand a chance against me. I am amazing. I am going to rock her world....hey wait, are those YELLOW toenails? and what is that painted on them?....Oh no, this chick means business!"I have to admit though, I really DO like sparring. Getting whacked in the eye was not the funnest thing ever, but there aren't many people I wouldn't want to stand against in the ring. B.R.I.N.G. I.T. (haha!)
